The aortic coarctation is a congenital malformation increased peripheral resistance due to a structural stenosis of the aorta.
Other causes include Marfan's syndrome, Ehlers Danlos' syndrome, aortic coarctation, bicuspid aortic valve, aortic hypoplasia, cystic medial necrosis, pregnancy, trauma and iatrogenic causes.
Both brachial and femoral pulses bilaterally should be equal in timing and intensity and blood pressure in the right arm normal, to exclude aortic coarctation.
