Country: United States of America State: New Mexico I've been on probation since Feb. 2005. I was caught with a friend shoplifting. The merchandise totaled over $250. I was put on probation for 18 months. Today I was caught shoplifting at Wal-Mart. The merchandise totaled $18. I didn't get arrested, but I was given a criminal situation. I need to tell my probation officer about this before I have to appear in court on Monday. I'm wondering what my punishment is going to be and how I should plead and if I'm going to need a lawyer.

Yes do get a lawyer--having this second offense will be problematic and you need counsel to help reduce the potential punishment.
