    0.01 sec.
Ask a Lawyer

Question

Country: United States of America
State: New York

When a lawsuit is settled: Do the attorneys get paid from the gross amount of the settlement or from the net amount after all debts are repaid?

Answer

For contingency suits expenses of the suit normally are deducted and then the attorneys take their one third or whatever amount was agreed. That can vary by agreement however.
