Former New York state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer had alleged brokers and insurers conspired in an industrywide practice of manipulating the insurance market through the use and payment of undisclosed contingent commissions, bid-rigging and other practices.
Marsh & McLennan, which has struggled with profitability since it changed operating procedures after New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer in 2004 accused it of bid-rigging, said the actions announced Friday would save it roughly $350 million a year by the end of 2008.
In late December, federal officials raided the corporate offices of PVTA and Hulmes to investigate a possible bid-rigging scheme between the two firms.
