Ask a Lawyer QuestionCountry: United States of AmericaState: Tennessee My boyfriend put down a $1000.00 deposit on a 2000 dodge stratus car for me, because my credit is bad, and the car is in his name. The problem is I have been paying on the car and I only like about 1year and a half left on the car. I also have been paying the insurance and the up keep on the car. We broke up and now he's talking about taking the car back. My question is what can be done about it. Can he legally take the car even though he hasn't been paying for? AnswerIf he takes it you may sue in small claims or other court--but he can take it if title is in his name; he would have to pay you though. How to thank TFD for its existence?
