If an individual wants to carry on business under his or her own name then he or she does not need to register.
This means if you are using a name other than your own in Alberta and you are not in partnership with anyone else, you must register a Declaration of Trade Name in order to carry on business in Alberta as a sole proprietorship.
Accordingly, when treaty protection is available, it is possible to carry on business in Canada, within these limits, without being subject to Canadian income taxes.
