Conspecificity of the ticks Ixodes scapularis and Ixodes dammini (Acari: Ixodidae).
For example, some biologists view distinctive coloration and ornament in animals as a signal of conspecificity (animals of the same species) and therefore as a means of avoiding mating with non-specifics (animals of other species).
