During the persecution of the third century, the Christian "Father" Cyprian of Carthage wrote many letters to those imprisoned or exiled or else suffering from widespread disease in the Middle East and North Africa.
The ancient Church Father Cyprian of Carthage once counselled the martyrs (shortly before he joined them): "Think less of death than of immortality .
Cyprian of Carthage, 200 years after Ignatius, added to his own designation Caecilianus, which was the name of the priest who baptized him.
