disbarment

disbarment n. the ultimate discipline of an attorney, which is taking away his/her license to practice law often for life. Disbarment only comes after investigation and opportunities for the attorney to explain his/her improper conduct. Sometimes an attorney may be reinstated upon a showing of rehabilitation and/or cure. CAIRO, Spt 27 (KUNA) -- The joint meeting on Middle East's nuclear non-proliferation and disbarment will kick off Monday in Cairo, the Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies nuclear energy said Sunday.
Because disbarment would be permanent, the commission also recommended that Bar discipline guidelines be revised to allow for suspension from the practice for up to five years (currently three years) and amend the rules to require attorneys who have been suspended in Florida for three years or more to reapply for Bar admission.
Jewell also argued that the stress of the federal investigation and prosecution and his likely disbarment were enough punishment.
