Ask a Lawyer QuestionCountry: United States of AmericaState: Florida My husband died in March of 2004 we had cellular phone service through Nextel under an account the he and his mother set up for us. I received a call from her yesterday and she told me that she was going to have me charged with identity theft. She said that I had stolen her Social Security number and opened that account in August 2004. In actuality that account was opened by her and her son in June of 2003 and I cancelled it after he died in June 2004. Can she charge me for identity theft? What should I do? I never had access to her personal information or social security number. AnswerNo--you will not be charged; once the info is made clear the matter will be closed...How to thank TFD for its existence?
