[Latin, In extremity.] A term used in reference to the last illness prior to death.

A causa mortis gift is made by an individual who is in extremis.


in extremis (in ex-tree-miss) adj. facing imminent death.


in extremis adjective approaching death, at one's end, at the conclusion of life, at the last stage, at the point of death, at the termination of life, during the last moments of life, dying, expiring, in one's last moments, in the final moments of life, in the jaws of death, moribund, near death, near one's end, on one's deathbed, passing away, termiially ill, under a sense of impending death

IN EXTREMIS. This phrase is used to denote the end of life; as, a marriage in extremis, is one made at the end of life. Vide Extremis.
