Ancient preparatory colleges where qualified clerks studied the drafting of writs, which was a function of the officers of the Court of Chancery. Students attended Inns of Chancery to learn the basics of law and to qualify for admission after two years of instruction to the Inns of Court to which the Inn of Chancery was attached. The role of the Inns of Chancery in the English Legal Education process significantly declined in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. How to thank TFD for its existence?
