Generation of slow wave activity in gastric smooth muscle cells is thought to originate from specialized intramuscular interstitial cells (interstitial cells of Cajal) which evoke electrical depolarization in a rhythmic manner.
In the lungs, scattered interstitial cells and a few alveolar pneumocytes were positive (Figure 1F).
