Jail time for DUI

Question

Country: United States of America
State: Ohio

Last week on the way home from work I was pulled over by a police officer at 2:30 in the morning. After passing all sobriety tests I was asked to do the breathalyzer test. My alcohol level was 13. My car was impounded and I was brought down to the police station. I also found out that my license had been suspended for a previous traffic violation a few months ago. After the paperwork was processed I was given a court date and released. My question is this: Is there anything that can be said or done to ease some of the penalties in sure to face. I'm not so worried about the fines. What concerns me is possible jail time. I have a child and no family out here in Ohio so, I wouldn't have any one to stay with my son if were to get sentenced to jail time.

Answer

You should hire counsel--jail time likely can be avoided but it is easier for counsel to negotiate that than you.
