Much of the exciting research at the meeting focused not on people struggling with late, severe symptoms of Parkinson's disease but on those in whom the illness had not yet become, or was just beginning to become, apparent. But the connection of potentially damaging environmental exposures and degenerative brain diseases such as Parkinson's disease (PD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or even Alzheimer's disease is a relatively new concept for most people, scientists and nonscientists included.
