WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court on Tuesday struck down the Bush administration's attempt to block Oregon's assisted-suicide law, paving the way for California and other states to pass laws permitting doctors to help terminally ill patients die. Nevada also enacted unique legislation that empowers the state contractors board to conduct background investigations, obtain the fingerprints of applicants and licensees, require contractors to pass law and trade tests prior to licensing, and ensure that contractors establish their financial responsibility. California, New Jersey, and Vermont pass laws banning antigay workplace discrimination. |
