And surely most Californians are at least passingly familiar with the work of Arizona Rep. There is a woeful lack of specificity about the meaning of pluralism in any of them: only Max Lerner passingly mentions the Negroes and the struggle for their betterment (and that optimistically); no one talks about women or feminism (and where is Mary McCarthy in this group? Even the editors of the Horn Book, with their enviably encyclopedic knowledge of children's books, were only passingly familiar with it. |
