The presidency is the only elected office where a candidate can win a majority of the popular vote but lose the election. The Assembly bill that would award California's 55 electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote would disenfranchise California voters. I couldn't agree more with the article entitled "Assault on the Electoral College" (June 26) by George Detweiler, especially his exposure of the idiocy of, not to mention the blatant unconstitutionality of, the proposed "National Popular Vote Plan" espoused by a number of political has-beens. |
