It strikes me as sad that you had to publish Ordinatio Sacerdotalis and Responsum ad Dubium in the December issue. The Responsum ad dubium, dated October 28, 1995, and signed by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger and Tarcisio Bertone of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, offered a clarification: "This teaching requires definitive assent, since, founded on the written Word of God, and from the beginning constantly preserved and applied in the Tradition of the church, it has been set forth infallibly by the ordinary and universal magisterium. In carefully arguing that a responsum from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith did not establish the teaching of Ordinatio sacerdatolis as infallible, the society's Task Force was, I would maintain, not only respectful and responsible but actually conservative. |
