Although the writings of the Roman Stoics tend simply to discount women, (23) the social role and behavior of women were of concern to Tudor Christians writing in a time of religious crisis in France and the Netherlands and, of course, under the reign of Elizabeth.
This would seem to have more in common with Hobbes or Locke than with either the Roman Stoics or Thomas Aquinas.
Are we really Roman Stoics for whom this is the work of fate?
