Stole from Walmart, misdemeanor or felony?

Question

Country: United States of America
State: Indiana

I stole from wall-mart when I was 17. I was not actually arrested, just turned over to my parents. I can't exactly remember how much I stole but I know I was less than $1,000. I have since joined the military and I get out in 9 months. I am going to become a police officer and one of the questions on the application is if I was convicted of a misdemeanor or felony. I was never told either one so I don't know whether to put yes or no.

Answer

You were not convicted if you did not go to court...
