Our findings suggest that other exercise variables may be more critical than position in enhancing urinary continence outcomes. A failed trial of pelvic muscle exercise training is defined as no clinically significant improvement in urinary continence after completing 4 weeks of an ordered plan of pelvic muscle exercises designed to increase periurethral muscle strength. A minimum 3-month limit was necessary to exclude the effects of hormonal changes brought about by pregnancy and childbirth, which can influence urinary continence by increasing the laxity of muscles and ligaments in the pelvic region. |
