Question

Country: United States of America State: Utah Regarding my vanity license plate request which is "ACLUSUX"; the Utah DMV denied this request stating the term "SUX" is derogatory. However, the DMV has issued many other vanity plates with the term "SUX", i.e."LIFESUX". There seems to be subjective enforcement of the use of"SUX". When is it derogatory and when is it not? If it is allowed in one context, why not another? There is also the basic 1st amendment right to express my opinion even if it is not in a public forum situation because the DMV is already allowing the usage.

Answer

You could certainly appeal it to them and or sue in court.
