Abnepos

ABNEPOS, civil law. The grandson of a grandson or granddaughter, or fourth descendant. Abneptis, is the granddaughter of a grandson or granddaughter. These terms are used in making genealogical tables.

In the expression abnepos ejus nothus the word ejus must refer back to illi .
The charter evidence would suggest that William's word abnepos should probably be understood in the sense of nepos, which was in common use from the post-Augustan period onwards in the sense of a brother's or sister's son.
