Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS)

a computer system that scans fingerprints from crime scenes and compares them with millions of others around the world. It is based around patented inventions whereby the apparatus and computer compare details of each fingerprint in a database of fingerprints with the suspect print in order to determine the existence or not of a fit.
