Body

The principal part of anything as distinguished from its subordinate parts, as in the main part of an instrument. An individual, an organization, or an entity given legal recognition, such as a corporation or "body corporate." A compilation of laws known as a "body of laws."

Lyon of the Medical Research Council's Mammalian Genetics Unit in Harwell, England, proposed in 1960 the idea of X inactivation, with the shutoff chromosome becoming the Barr body. While some critics challenged Lyon's hypothesis, it quickly garnered enough support that X inactivation was called--and still is, by some scientists--Lyonization.
Then they were evaluated with serum Follicular Stimulating Hormone (FSH) level, pelvic ultrasound and buccal smear for barr body. Finally the diagnosis was confirmed with karyotyping.
