In the 14 countries designated high priority (because of high HIV rates and low
circumcision prevalence), the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that the 18.6 million
circumcisions already performed have prevented an estimated 230 000 new HIV infections, with the number prevented projected to increase to 1.1 million by 2030.
