building contract

building contract

generally a CONTRACT the subject matter of which is for a building to be built. More specially to facilitate all but the smallest projects, various bodies have established standard form contracts covering as many eventualities as possible, providing convenient ways of measuring damages and loss and usually providing for ARBITRATION (and in the UK subject to ADJUDICATION).

The person who wants the work done is often called the employer. He will contract with a contractor to carry out the job, which is known as the works. The contractor is likely to make contracts with other individual trades and they are known as sub-contractors or ‘subbies’.
