The only organisation dedicated to representing
crofting is the Scottish
Crofting Federation (SCF).
"We are of the clear view that the LFASS 2019 shortfall can and must be made good to prevent the risk of land abandonment and the loss of all the many rural development benefits that hinge on active farming and
crofting in disadvantaged areas.
The court heard the purpose of the house grants scheme is for "the retention of population in the
crofting areas and the provision of assistance to crofters to enable them to build a house on their croft in order to be able to live on and work on the croft."
The programme, to be shown next month, will reveal their part in the Clearances, which saw tenant
crofting families forced off land to make way for animals.

crofting, and even grave digging.

Crofting Reform Bill (published in draft in March 2005) seeks to update, simplify and extend existing
crofting legislation.
Under the 1976
Crofting Reform Act, crofters are entitled to 50 per cent of the development potential of the land.
In 1991, Charles shocked locals by bringing his own Highgrove veg when he arrived to sample
crofting life on the Isle of Berneray.
It is "a small, fertile
crofting island, currently inhabited by around 130 people," says The National Trust for Scotland.
