Dislocated incus may remain in the epitympanic recess or prolapse into the hypotympanium or
external auditory canal (2).
The air pressure change produced in the
external auditory canal by slap is sufficient to cause medium size perforation in the tympanic membrane, as unveiled from the results of this study that commonest cause of perforation of tympanic membrane was slap (72.9%), while medium sized perforation was commonest perforation (56.2%).
Otoscopy displays a large, bulging mass in the posterosuperior aspect of the
external auditory canal.
Type I anomalies are purely ectodermal origin and contain squamous epithelium; this type of anomaly develops medial to the concha, often extending into the postauricular crease and ending in a cul-de-sac at the osseouscartilaginous junction of the
external auditory canal. These anomalies are usually superficial to the branch of the facial nerve.
TMJ ganglion within the
external auditory canal is rare.
