By contrast, eating a piece of cake, which has no fiber and lots of sugar, never stimulates the appestat to shut down, and consequently your body doesn't know you are full before you have had time to consume two or three pieces of cake.
Also, your appestat (hunger mechanism) is satisfied for longer periods of time, since it takes longer to digest fiber foods, and therefore you wuf have less of a tendency to snack between meals.
Your digestive system signals its hunger pangs to your appestat - the brain centre that controls the appetite.
