CHIKV-specific immunoglobulin G (IgG) and IgM were tested in acute- and convalescent-phase sera by an indirect fluorescent antibody test with a hyperimmune mouse ascitic fluid prepared against CHIKV Ross strain in conjunction with a fluorescein isothiocyanate-conjugated goat anti-human IgG (Fluoline G, bioMerieux, Marcy l'Etoile, France) as previously described (22). Evacuative paracentesis was performed: the ascitic fluid was clear, and cytologic analysis did not detect abnormal cells. Malignant ascites is a serious, late stage complication of ovarian and other intra-abdominal cancers and is unresponsive to current therapy, being normally relieved by repeated drainage of ascitic fluid. |
