Recent work suggests that distinctiveness can be varied within a face by the caricaturing process (see Benson & Perrett, 1991; Rhodes, Brennan & Carey, 1987).
It may be possible, therefore, to use caricaturing techniques to manipulate the distinctiveness of a suspect's face and so aid the eyewitness.
