May 7, 1959: A 17-year-old who was being held in the city jail on charges of carrying a deadly weapon and assault with intent to kill, has been declared insane and ordered committed to a California mental institution by Juvenile Judge Sam Montoya.
John Murphy was declared insane and unfit to plead by a high court judge in 2005 after being accused of a string of abuse charges against four girls and a boy 30 years ago.
