And what if the hotshot dimwit (Nuke LaLoosh) he had to mentor wasn't a character played by a good actor (Tim Robbins), but a hotshot dimwit played by an actual dimwit (Ashton Kutcher)? In some cases, this is an individual who was frustrated in past attempts to become a CEO and sees this as his opportunity to prove himself to the dimwits who failed to recognize his talent. Aside from the limp plotting, which I can't blame on the adapter, my biggest beef with The 'Rents is that, as Alice Alfonsi writes it, Lizzie is a shallow dimwit, not the female everyteen with shallow-dimwit lapses she seems to be on TV. |
