to reduce land from the status of a forest to the state of ordinary ground.

In 1155 Henry II handed over 1,500 acres of cleared forest to the Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield, thereby creating Cannock Chase and in 1189 Richard I disafforested all the rest of the bishop's lands, leading to the creation of Sutton Chase.
