It may be worth bearing in mind in this context that the Lollard Disendowment Bill of 1410 proposed the establishment of fifteen new universities in England out of the funds raised from disendowing the clergy, which Rita Copeland reads as a 'symbolic gesture' presenting 'one articulation, indeed, even one theorisation, of the exportation of the "intellectual project" out of the university': Pedagogy, Intellectuals and Dissent in the Later Middle Ages.
