However, more controlling forms of motivation, such as introjected and external motivation, had moderate positive correlations with the self-determined forms of motivation of intrinsic motivation and identified regulation.
The need may arise from external motivations (such as a Department of Defense contract requirement) or internal motivations--such as the goals of enhanced profitability, reduced costs, and improved delivery times.
Additional data gleaned from this survey found that intrinsic motivation, such as working for a cause, was much more powerful than external motivation, such as a financial incentive.
