While the work as we have it still betrays some haste in composition, especially in the third book, and while Filelfo's work here and elsewhere can be eclectic to the point of being pretentiously farraginous in its concatenation of classical (especially Greek) allusions, Bruni's final sentence is an impressive synthesis of Filelfo's civic concerns.
