final decree n. another name for a final judgment. In states where there are interlocutory decrees of divorce (in the hope that a further wait may lead to reconciliation), followed several months later by the actual divorce, the second order is called a final decree, issued after the filing of a declaration that the couple is still asunder (can't get back together.)

A Convention adoption subject to the IAA will be final for Federal income tax purposes in the (1) tax year for which the Secretary of State certifies as final an adoption subject to IAA Section 301(b); or (2) year in which the state court enters a final decree of adoption (IAA Section 301(c)).
In Gonzales, the court determined that under a temporary court order a non-custodial payor-spouse was liable for a continuing payment because New Jersey state law could require that spouse to make family support payments if the payee-spouse died before the final decree was granted.
When the final decree was published by Rome, however, the more extravagant claims made about Gemma (her stigmata; her casual conversations with her guardian angel) were bracketed, with consideration given only to her heroic virtue.
