Simian foamy viruses (SFVs) are exogenous complex retroviruses, highly prevalent in several animal species in which they cause persistent infections (16-26).
Simian foamy viruses are members of this group, and the high rates of viral chatter observed in Cameroon suggest a strong potential for their emergence as a human-to-human transmitted pathogen.
