| Data from clinical trials before lumiracoxib was registered suggested if patients developed elevated liver function tests while on the drug, they were likely to normalise after they stopped taking it. The otolith function tests, in particular, have been reported to have a sensitivity in the range of 40% to 60%, and, for this reason, otolith dysfunction may not have been correctly identified across the study sample. These include a wider array of pulmonary function tests (full lung volumes, diffusing capacity), measurement of bronchial reactivity, computed tomography scans, and--in appropriate patients--bronchoalveolar lavage and lung biopsies, which would truly elucidate the respiratory disorders following WTC exposure. |
