American to trim recall list of furloughed attendants.
The decision to furlough employees for budgetary reasons -- followed four days later by an announcement that they would not be furloughed -- is among the signs of an already overloaded institution that must come to grips with an unprecedented budget shortfall.
Facing $17 million in midyear budget cuts and bracing for more, the Los Angeles Community College District voted unanimously Wednesday to notify 120 administrators - including Chancellor Mark Drummond - they could be furloughed after June 30.
