We are now examining the effect of these mutations on channel function in cultured cells, The importance of these studies lies in the identification of additional genetic causes of atria and point to the importance of voltage gated channels for functioning, and survival of Purkinje neurons.
Both instruments are suitable for ligand and voltage gated channels but only work for whole-cell patch configurations.
When there is a shift in the membrane potential the voltage in one part of the membrane (where some of the voltage gated channels lie) will "tickle" the inner surface of the ion channel protein and open the channel briefly allowing ion channels to flow through.
