Byline: ANI Washington, Aug 2 (ANI): Highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) can prove helpful in preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV in poor countries, according to an editorial in response to a research study in the August 15 issue of JAIDS: Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes.
The gap in mortality rates between people with HIV infection and the general population has narrowed every year since the introduction of highly active antiretroviral therapy in 1996, study investigators reported.
Primary HIV drug resistance (PDR) is associated with poor treatment outcome of first-line highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART).
