Responding to my second question, Campbell conceded to the problem of identity classification.
In order to compare the athletic identity classification technique with the more common athletic participation approach, separate independent t-tests were conducted on the differences between athletes and nonathletes' endorsement of masculine and feminine gender roles.
Unfortunately these categories narrow the scope of women's experiences (a primary component of the '70s feminist consciousness-raising efforts) to identity classifications.
