| Three of the contributors to this volume (William Ayers, Tom Barone, and Donald Blumenfeld-Jones) advocate the use of the humanities and the arts as guides to research, or substitutes for it, or as inspirers of themes for research. The chief inspirers of the Arts and Crafts movement were Ruskin and Morris, both of whom were early environmental campaigners: learning from them, the AR has always believed that the world's resources are limited, and that development should respect the planet.
