In free static stretching there is no external loading with muscle relaxation, or with isometric muscle contraction (sometimes called active static stretching). Each subject performed an isometric muscle contraction 3 times consecutively with a 2-minute rest between trials. In addition to carrying information from nociceptors to the central nervous system, some group III and IV afferents mediate the pressor response to sustained isometric muscle contraction. |
