Thrombocytopenia was observed in all the patients, elevated hematocrit in about three fourths, and leukocytosis with neutrophilia and a left shift in the differential count in about two thirds. Generalized white blood cell count elevation with a left shift is strongly indicative of the presence of an infectious disease such as osteomyelitis. Common laboratory findings include elevated hematocrit, leukocytosis with left shift and immature myelocytes and immunoblasts, and thrombocytopenia (6,7). |
