| Researchers assigned 45 sedentary obese women aged 50 to 70 to either a low-calorie diet or the same diet plus either high- or low-intensity exercise. Low-calorie diets in the range of 800 to 1,200 calories per day are considered safe if followed under a doctor's supervision. The researchers enrolled 288 people who had lost 8 percent of their weight on a strict low-calorie diet coupled with regular exercise. |
